After minor renovations such as kitchen upgrades, new cedar board and batten siding, painting of guest rooms and a new water system the lodge will be moved to Glendale Cove, Knight Inlet at the end of April. We are confident that our opening date of May 24 will be met and look forward to a very successful 2013 season.
The photo at the top is courtesy of Al Hansen and was taken after a very long day of loading the lodge onto the floating dry dock. A nice reward for a job well done!

Dean & Kathy Wyatt are very happy to announce the purchase of a replacement floating lodge that will be ready to go for the start of our 2013 season on May 24, 2013.
The new lodge will have 16 guests rooms, all with private washroom and showers, plus the ability to expand slightly in the future. Knight Inlet Lodge #2 is 5 years old and in excellent shape. We will be performing minor renovations to the lodge at our home base in Campbell River on Vancouver Island prior to towing the lodge to Glendale Cove in April for final anchoring and hookup.

Many thanks to Ann for sharing this story with us. As you might imagine the last month and a bit since the fire have been at times difficult for everyone at Knight Inlet Lodge. It is the incredible support of guests such as Ann that have gone a long way towards helping us keep our spirits up.

The grizzly bear viewing is off to a great start at the lodge. Not only has Lenore appeared with 2 healthy babies but we have a sow (Ava) with triplets plus Bell and her 2 cubs all in the area.
We have also had a very large male in our area that has caused our sow and cub combos some worries but so far everyone is finding room to coexist. for a great video on Bella and her cubs swimming right by Knight Inlet Lodge as they avoid a male go to our Facebook page www.facebook.com/knightinlet

Published in October 2011 – co-authored by Dave Campbell and Margaret Healion – Voice of the Great Spirit is a beautifully crafted hardback title celebrating the grizzly bears of Knight Inlet – and the landscape and wildlife they co-habit – in this idyllic part of British Columbia, at the foot of the Great Bear Rainforest.
The book has been extremely well received by reviewers and the media since its launch in North America last Fall. Distributed by Small Press United (part of IPG) in North America, the book is available to buy directly online at www.VoiceOfTheGreatSpirit.com – and the regular online retailers, as well as many good independent book stores Worldwide.

Our micro hydro system has worked out well this winter. With almost 8 weeks of operation we have saved close to 4,000 litres of diesel fuel to date. As we gear up for the 2012 season and our preseason fisheries project we will have to switch to our diesel generator since our electrical requirements will be beyond what our micro hydro can produce. Still all in all we are very pleased with what we have been able to do this winter.
Knight Inlet Lodge is looking at other ways we can supplement our hydro requirements including solar and wind options that may be feasible in the very near future. Located in Glendale Cove, Knight Inlet Lodge is Canada’s premier grizzly bear veiwing destination.

Former Knight Inlet Lodge guide Hayley Shephard has written a book about her solo kayak trip around South Georgia Island in the Antarctic. South Solo – Kayaking To Save The Albatross will be on sale at Knight Inlet Lodge during the 2012 season. The book can also be purchased online at www.amazon.com
South Georgia Island stands alone in the path of relentless storms and high winds in the South Atlantic Ocean. It’s the final resting place of famed explorer Ernest Shackleton and a place whose savage beauty has captivated wilderness guide and expedition leader Hayley Shephard for more than 1o years.
A story of solitary endurance, passion and survival, it’s an intimate look at one woman’s quest to find her place in the world.
